The magic of Eurovision Song Contest

I recently hosted a little get together to view and celebrate all things Eurovision on Semi-final 2 night of Eurovision Malmo 2013.

Australia has long had a love affair with the Song Contest, partly because we appreciate the camp and superciliousness of the event. It is no coincidence that Priscilla Queen of the Desert was an Australian movie. While there is much that is backward about us, we love the sexually ambiguous, particularly when paired with a key change, the mullet dress, wind machine and sequins.

So for an example of what Eurovision can deliver her is  5 of my favourites, sit back and enjoy:

5/ Ukraine 2007 Verka Serduchka- Dancing Laska Tumbai, purely for the disco ball headdress

4/ Azerbaijan 2008 Elnur and Samir- Day after Day, good versus evil

3/ Greece 2004 Sakis Rouvas - Shake It, first he undresses his dancers....

2/ Ukraine 2004- Ruslana- Wild Dance, she really commits

1/ Norway 2012 Tooji- Stay, boy in a hood
